Snotbot: Ocean Alliance

Project Overview

In this film we isolated the use case of Ocean Alliance to show DJI drone technology doing more than just camera work. In Baja California, scientists are using DJI drones to capture data on Blue, Humpback and Grey Whales, bridging a critical gap that makes their research more efficient, less expensive and less intrusive.

Animal behavior is never predictable, and we made the best of the shoot despite limited research funds dictating our time on the water.

We opted for a run-and-gun documentary style, mixed with traditional blue chip footage. In post we carefully sequenced aerial footage to weave together a fast-paced, elevated brand piece. The result showcased an unexpected partnership and celebrated the future of DJI systems and technology in diverse fields.

We were searching for whales all day with no luck. Right when we were ready to head back to shore, a giant humpback breached 20 feet from the boat… with cameras rolling. Nature can surprise you!
